Analysis
IoTopia’s hackathon required branding that would spark excitement and participation, but their academic, traditional approach failed to connect with the innovation-driven student population. Research focused on sci-fi event branding and what gets young tech minds excited about competition and learning.
IoTopia, a university-led hackathon, needed a brand identity matching their futuristic theme of sustainable, smart cities. Their initial materials lacked energy, looking like generic academic f lyers. Our discovery included researching visual trends from major tech events, understanding what excites students about hackathons, and studying sci-fi inspired aesthetics.
The plan was clear: build a vibrant, electric identity that made students feel part of the future the moment they saw the first announcement.
Solution
Our designers created a neon-inspired logo with dynamic geometric shapes symbolizing connectivity and technology. A palette of electric blues, purples, and neon greens brought a sense of innovation, while glitch effects and futuristic gradients added excitement.
We extended the brand across event banners, stage visuals, participant badges, social media teasers, and merchandise, ensuring every touchpoint amplified the theme of futuristic sustainability
We delivered all digital and print assets in organized packages, optimized for both web and large-scale display. A pre-event workshop trained student volunteers on setting up stage visuals and social content, ensuring IoTopia’s experience was cohesive from registration to final awards.
Bright neon branding, glitch effects, and geometric patterns redefined the event’s look, making every digital and print piece feel like an invitation to the future. Stage backdrops, banners, badges, and social teasers unified the new identity across the event lifecycle. An early workshop made sure volunteers and staff would use brand elements consistently. The result was record turnout and a flood of online attention during the event.
